Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana appointed as CEO of Impress

Impress is pleased to announce that Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana has been appointed as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1st April 2023.
Lexie will serve as Deputy CEO with immediate effect as she works closely with outgoing CEO Ed Procter to ensure a smooth transition of leadership.
A member of the team since 2018, Lexie is a qualified barrister and media regulation expert who began her career in New Zealand before moving to the UK to work for the Advertising Standards Authority and then Impress as Head of Regulation.
Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana said: “I am delighted to be taking on this role and excited to tackle the challenges and opportunities the future holds with the same passion that has characterised my career to date.”
Kirkconnell-Kawana continued:
“Having built a strong foundation with our wide membership, Impress is preparing to roll out a raft of exciting products and services for all kinds of news innovators, to continue to build public trust in news in the UK now and in the future.”
Richard Ayre, Chair of Impress, said: “We couldn’t be more pleased that Lexie will lead the organisation through the next stage of its development as the UK’s genuinely independent press regulator.”
Ayre continued:
“We were thrilled at the range and calibre of the competitors for this post, but in the end Lexie’s forensic knowledge of media regulation and her vision for the way Impress can rebuild public confidence in news media made her a compelling choice to lead the Impress team.”
The appointment followed an open recruitment process overseen by Juliet Taylor at Starfish Search.
