Impress statement: Prince Harry achieves partial victory in phone-hacking case against Daily Mirror

Impress welcomes the news that Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has been able to successfully hold the Daily Mirror accountable through a partial victory in court, over phone hacking and other unlawful information gathering.

However, there remains a deep-rooted societal issue at play. The cost of litigation is so high that only the very rich can hold to account press bodies outside of independent press regulation that have wronged them.

For every story of success from a high-profile figure like Prince Harry, there are many more members of the public unable to risk the cost of taking a large media body to court.

It can take more than a year for your claim to reach the courts and it will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. For the vast majority of people, it is simply not a viable option.

Change is needed. Everyone must be able to access justice, not just those who are able to afford their day in court.

Impress offers low-cost dispute resolution for this very reason, so that everyone has the chance for their claim to be heard, have a decision reached swiftly, and justice served.
