We are delighted to see several Impress members nominated for Press Gazette’s British Journalism Awards 2023.
The Ferret, The Scottish Beacon and Migrant Women Press are represented among the nominees ahead of the ceremony at the Hilton Bankside on December 14.
Investigative journalism platform, The Ferret, have been nominated for the Social Affairs, Diversity & Inclusion award for their podcast series Sheku Bayoh: The Inquiry.
It explores the death of Sheku Bayoh while being restrained by police and follows the enquiry into the circumstances, launched back in May 2023.
Meanwhile, journalists Rhiannon Davies and Juliana Da Penha have both been nominated for two awards.
The duo are behind The Scottish Beacon, a collaborative project that aims to bring together the best quality journalism from Scotland’s independent community-based local news publishers. The project has been nominated for Innovation of the Year.
Da Penha and Davies have each been nominated for the Women in Journalism Georgina Henry Award, recognised for their work with Migrant Women Press and The Scottish Beacon respectively.
Impress Chief Executive Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana said:

“I am ecstatic to once again see so many Impress members nominated for these prestigious industry awards and I want to add my congratulations to The Ferret, Scottish Beacon and Migrant Women Press for their innovative and impactful work.
“Impress has always been committed to upholding press freedoms, the rights of communities and individuals and improving diversity of thought and voice in the industry; these achievements show that committing to high standards and rigorous press regulation does not stop publishers from being industry leaders.”
