How has AI impacted the news? Could social media be a threat to democracy? What can we do to support local journalism?
As 2024 draws to a close, Impress Chief Executive Lexie Kirkconnell-Kawana sits down with company Chair Richard Ayre to take a look back on an eventful year in news media.
2024 was undoubtedly an eventful year. We saw Donald Trump elected as President of the USA for a second time, Keir Starmer’s Labour Party topple the Conservatives and huge shifts across the worlds of technology and social media.
Together, Lexie and Richard take a look at how social media has shaped the past year, the support that is still needed for local journalism in the UK, how the public can boost their media literacy, and why the political state of the world is cause for concern.
Also, what could 2025 bring to the world of media? Lexie and Richard offer their predictions and Christmas wishes for the year ahead.
